After successfully quitting a severe Opioid habit, Veronica was sober for over 9 months. One afternoon she sees her ex-boyfriend and becomes depressed. Veronica goes to the home of her old drug dealer and obtains five Percocet pills. She immediately takes all of them, drinks 3 vodka tonics and passes out in the driveway of her mother’s home where she’s been living for the past 6 months since leaving her ex for beating her up. The next day in session she reports arguing with her mother after she yelled at her to “get some help because you can’t stop yourself from going over there where that idiot hangs out” to which Veronica begins screaming at her telling her she “needs to mind your own business, you never left dad all those years, don’t think we didn’t see all those bruises!” She begins shaking and sobbing remembering the times she hid in her closet while her father abused her mother saying “it rushes up on me I can’t control it, I just lose it.” Veronica is ashamed at how similar she and her mom’s lives have become, remembering that she almost died the last time her ex beat her up but she still loves him and isn’t sure where to turn.
