CASE STUDY QUESTIONS TO ADDRESS- (use textbook pages 25-89 )
1. Prepare a written report that presents a convincing disparate treatment claim that Gus
had been intentionally discriminated against on the basis of his age. Do not address the
claim as one of disparate impact.
2. Present a convincing rebuttal, from the viewpoint of BPIC, to this disparate treatment
Read the assigned case study and answer the specific case questions. (This is
a CASE STUDY assignment – do not answer the general end-of-chapter
discussion questions in error.)
You must submit one MS Word attachment containing a title page, at least
three complete pages of original analysis and discussion, and a references
page (a minimum of one current, scholarly reference published in or after
Correct use of the APA format for in-text citations and the references list
is required for all assignments.
One inch margins on all four sides, and 12 point Times New Roman
fonts on all pages – title page, narrative, and references list.
Good tips on how to cite in-text and list references are available in
the Professor’s Improvement Suggestions document.
Do not add extra spaces between lines, do not add extra white space at the
top or bottom of pages, and do not use margins greater than one-inch.
Doing so will result in a short paper and a significant grading reduction.
. Keep quotations to an absolute minimum. Zero quotations preferred.
PLEASE NOTE ALSO!!
1) Case studies require a minimum of three complete pages of typed analysis
and discussion, using 12-point Times New Roman fonts on all pages, oneinch margins on all four sides, and double-spacing. Three complete pages
of analysis and discussion is the minimum standard. Submitting 2.9 pages
of typed narrative or less will result in a substantial grading penalty. The
required title page and required reference page do not count toward the
minimum page count.
As a general rule, a case analysis should include the following (in addition
to a title page, APA-formatted in-text citations inserted multiple times
throughout the narrative, and a reference page):
o An explanation or detailed summary of the case in your own words;
o The issues or concepts addressed by the case that were discussed in the
o The implications of the case for today’s hiring managers and human
o Your answers to the case questions, with a detailed rationale for each
o Other potential solutions to the case not addressed in the questions; and
o Recommendations for future research.
Organize content for each case study, and all other written assignments,
under Level 1 headings. Level 1 headings are centered and boldface with
uppercase and lowercase letters.
3) Each case study must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman fonts on all
pages, including the title page and reference page.
4) No excess white space, extra spacing, extra indentions, or wide margins:
Excess white space at the top or bottom of pages, extra spacing between
paragraphs or sections, extra indentions on either side of the page, or
margins greater than one-inch will not count toward the minimum page
count, and will result in a substantial grading penalty. Likewise, keep all
text together. Do not insert page breaks anywhere in the document.
5) Multiple in-text citations, in the APA format: In a scholarly assignment, intext citations (using the APA author-date method) should be inserted
throughout the narrative each and every time someone else’s ideas, facts,
terms or statistics influenced your work.
6) A minimum of one scholarly reference is required to support the
statements made in each case study. Two or more scholarly references are
preferred for graduate-level case studies,. Each entry in the reference list
must be cited at least once in the narrative (using the APA author-date
7) Use Level 1 headings. Level 1 headings are centered and boldface with
uppercase and lowercase letters. Do not use quotations: While one brief
quotation is permitted, graduate students are expected to effectively
paraphrase the work of others. Additionally, quotations are detected as
matches by SafeAssign and will increase SafeAssign scores. Keep
quotations to an absolute minimum; zero quotations are preferred. As a
graduate student, you need to find your own writing “voice.” Higher
grades are associated with case studies that do not contain multiple
quotations. If you insist on inserting one brief quotation, this will not count
toward the minimum page count and must be cited within the narrative in
the correct APA format. See Chapter 6 of the APA manual for correct
8) Graduate-level analysis and discussion of case study scenarios requires
good narrative prose. As such, please do not submit bulleted or numbered
statements in case studies.
9) No abstracts on cases: Given the short, 3-5 page case study assignments
required in this course, abstracts are not to be used for case studies. Use
the 3-5 pages to cover the content required and to answer the questions in
the assigned case. Do not begin case studies with an abstract. The title
page must contain the student’s name, the title of the assignment, the
course number, the complete course name, the name of the university, and
the date of submission.
