How has a specific form of media shaped how you imagine gender roles?

This week, we discussed issues of media representation as they relate to gender, relationships, and sexuality.

For our second sustained writing project, I want you to choose one of the following lines of inquiry to construct an informal, engaging essay that will both interest your peers as well as get them to think carefully about your topic. Your choices are:

a.) How has a specific form of media shaped how you imagine gender roles?

b.) How has a specific form of media shaped what you think about relationships?

c.) How has a specific form of media shaped how you think about sexuality?

In your 750 to 1000 word paper (double spaced, in MLA format, not including your works cited page), you should carefully inquire into one of these three prompts, perhaps building from our earlier discussion posts from the week about the subjects (as a possible staring point).

Your essay should draw on at least one of the course readings from the week as well as three other sources you will choose to help you form your inquiry. Be sure to still follow the using sources guide and use your sources correctly.

But the main criteria your essay will be graded on is how you use form and tone to make your essay interesting and engaging: returning to our discussion of the essays from Gay and Katz we read this week, try and employ strategies that make your writing engaging for your peers.
