To Prepare:

Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest.
Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.
Part 1: An Introduction to Clinical Inquiry

Nurse Patient Ration
The nurse-patient ratio has emerged as a controversial debate in the healthcare sector. The government has reduced the healthcare expenditure in a number of years thus reducing the nurse-patient ratio. The number of patients assigned to each nurse can determine the quality of healthcare quality provided to them. In an ideal situation, the number of patients allocated to each nurse depends on the severity of the condition. The condition can be severe such as a person who is in the Intensive Care Unit. The person will require constant monitoring, which is essential for health. In such a case a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 is recommended. In the normal wards or patients who are not critically ill, a nurse can be allocated with a ratio of 1:5 or 1:8. Therefore, healthcare centers should ensure they comply with the right ratios.
The nurse-patient ratio is crucial since it is used to enhance the quality of healthcare. When the nurses are not tired, he or she will provide excellent services to the patients. This is compared to when patients are handled by a nurse who is tired and exhausted by the work and is looking forward to going home. In case the nurse-patient ratio is not aligned to the professional metrics, it will lead to medical errors and complications. The reason is that nurses will be tired and unable to make the right decisions. The nurses will also be exhausted and thus unable to concentrate. In most cases, when medical errors occur, the health of the patients deteriorate while others end up dying. Therefore, the appropriate nurse-patient ratio is crucial to be followed.
The search for the journals or peer-reviewed articles was accomplished by using the main search keywords. The strategy also included a search for the various journals that had the keyword “nurse-patient ratio” in the title. Additionally, I searched for articles that were peer-reviewed. I was specific on the articles since I had to access the full text in PDF document. The results of the search were hundreds of articles that were carried out in different places. I selected at least one peer-reviewed paper from each of the research databases. Therefore, the research was successful and I was able to select the best papers on the main keywords “nurse-patient ratio”.
